Building Tile Worlds · Version 0.5

Animated Tiles

Build reusable tile animations from frames on an existing tileset and paint them explicitly into a scene.

Animated Tiles are separate reusable definitions owned by a tileset. Painted cells reference one shared animation instead of storing their own frame sequences.

Creating an Animated Tile

  1. Open Animated Tile Editor.
  2. Choose the tileset that contains the artwork.
  3. Select New Animated Tile.
  4. Choose the current frame and click the tileset image to snap its source rectangle.
  5. Set the frame duration.
  6. Add, duplicate, remove, or reorder frames.
  7. Choose whether the animation loops.
  8. Use the preview controls to verify the timing.

Available frame controls

  • Add Frame
  • Duplicate
  • Remove
  • Move Left
  • Move Right
  • Looping
  • Play or Pause Preview
  • Restart Preview

Painting Animated Tiles

Return to the Tile Workspace and select the Animated palette section. Animated Tiles are placed explicitly with the normal painting tools.

A non-looping Animated Tile holds its final frame after playback completes.

Current limitation

Smart Tile rules cannot reference Animated Tiles in the current workflow. Auto and Animated sections are intentionally independent.
