Importing RPG Artwork

Use Browse and Clear fields to copy portable portraits, icons, sprites, illustrations, and backgrounds into the project.

Filmstrip’s RPG artwork fields use a project-owned import workflow. Creators select an external image through Browse, and the editor copies it into the matching project asset folder while storing a portable project-relative reference.

Current artwork slots

  • Actor menu or Party portraits.
  • Actor battle sprites and animation sheets.
  • Item icons.
  • Ability icons and impact sheets.
  • Status Effect icons and overhead animation sheets.
  • Encounter battle backgrounds.
  • Quest Journal illustrations.
  • Scene Sprite artwork through the Sprite inspector.

Import artwork

  1. Open the relevant RPG Database panel or Sprite inspector.
  2. Select Browse beside the artwork field.
  3. Choose a PNG, JPEG, GIF, or BMP image.
  4. Allow Filmstrip to copy the source into the matching assets/rpg or assets/sprites folder.
  5. Review the inline preview or grid warning when the field includes animation settings.
  6. Save the definition or scene.

Portable references

The stored field is intentionally read-only. Filmstrip keeps a project-relative path rather than a machine-specific external path, so the project can be moved, validated, saved, and eventually packaged without depending on the original location of the imported image.

Clear an artwork slot

Use Clear to remove the definition’s reference. Clearing the field does not require typing or manually editing a path. Runtime Party, Inventory, Equipment, battle, command, Status, and Journal layouts retain readable generated placeholders when optional artwork is missing.

Existing filenames

The import workflow does not overwrite an existing project asset with unrelated external artwork. Review the resulting project file and choose a distinct source filename when necessary.
