Art and Presentation · Version 0.5
Battle Art and Animation Sheets
Prepare Actor sheets, Ability impact strips, Status loops, Encounter backgrounds, and grid-based previews for turn-based battles.
Battle presentation uses authored project artwork when available and readable generated placeholders when it is not. Animation fields are grid-based: Filmstrip reads frames from a sheet using the selected Art Grid, frame order, and playback settings.
Battle artwork responsibilities
- Actors own separate menu portraits and battle sprites or sheets.
- Abilities may own icons and impact animation strips.
- Status Effects may own icons and overhead animation loops.
- Encounters may own battle backgrounds and presentation settings.
- Party side, authored facing, encounter horizon, and timeline visibility are configured through the RPG Database.
Actor sheets
For the Standard 32 profile, a normal visible combatant is approximately 32×64 pixels inside a 64×96 animation cell. Keep the character’s feet aligned to the same bottom-center position in every frame so the battle layout does not visibly jump.
Ability and Status sheets
Ability impact animations and Status overhead loops use ordered frames from authored sheets. Keep frame cells consistent and use the inline grid preview to verify the selected frame size, order, and playback before entering Play Mode.
Facing and battle sides
Turn-based battles place the Party on the left and enemies on the right by default. Author Actor facing consistently, then use the Actor and Encounter presentation fields when a project needs a different orientation or side.
Inline previews and warnings
Actor, Ability, and Status animation fields provide a grid preview with playback controls, current-frame highlighting, and exact sheet-dimension warnings. Resolve those warnings before judging the animation in Play Mode.
Encounter backgrounds
Author a battle background at 640×360 or an exact integer multiple such as 1280×720 when deliberately using a higher-density source. The image is imported into the project and selected through the Encounter editor.
